ABOUT OPRF EMPTY BOWLS
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots movement aimed at fighting hunger. Our Annual OPRFHS Empty Bowls fundraiser was established by former OPRF Wheel-throwing teacher, Pennie Ebsen. This year is our 20th year! Every year the OPRF Wheel-throwing club, entirely comprised of high school students, run and organize all aspects of the event. Hundreds of bowls are made by students, community pottery studios, and local artists. Students reach out to local businesses and restaurants for soup and bread donations. For one night community members come to the main entrance of OPRF and receive a handmade bowl, get locally donated soup, and join each other for a shared meal. All proceeds go to different organizations that help fight hunger on a local, national and global level: Beyond Hunger, Housing Forward, and Global Alliance for Africa.

Each year, we have hundreds of community members come together to support Empty Bowls. The whole main entrance of OPRF is packed! We share a meal with strangers and help fill empty bowls in our community. For most of the event, we have a line of people waiting for soup. As people are waiting, they learn about this history of soup kitchen and soup lines. Below are those posters we share.

ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATIONS
Housing ForwardHousing Forward is aimed at addressing homelessness. The organization works to transition people from a housing crisis to housing stability and offers programs and services designed to decrease the time and trauma associated with any form of housing instability.
Global Alliance For AfricaGlobal Alliance for Africa (GAA) is a non-for-profit agency that develops innovative programs for orphans, vulnerable children and youth, and women living in at-risk households in both urban and rural areas. They provide safe spaces, such as libraries, for individuals to go to, allowing them to access educational resources and other things that would otherwise be unavailable.
